Today marks the 70th Anniversary of the beginning of the Allied liberation of Europe.  At 7:35 a.m. on June 6, 1944 men from the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division dashed from their landing crafts across the sand of Juno Beach into a hail of bullets and bombs.  The Assaulting Battalions from the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, the North Shore Regiment, the Regina Rifles, the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and the Canadian Scottish Regiment suffered significant losses in gaining their objectives.  Their bravery, determination and sacrifice is impossible to imagine.

In the pre-dawn hours of June 6 men from the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion jumped behind enemy lines into the darkness.  The  Canadian paratroops disrupted communications and through an incredible feat of arms seized Pegasus Bridge.

Please take time today to reflect and remember their sacrifice.
